CSS to be modified to permit copying

Filed under: Uncategorized — ctrambler @ 6:17 pm

The DVD Copy Control Association, the body which license DVD technology in your DVD players, is to modify its Content Scrambling System (Digital Restriction Management System) to permit copying of DVD.

Just don’t open that champaigne yet please. Copying is only permitted on using “Special” media. This means they still want to control who can copy the DVDs and joe users like me and you are probably not permitted to purchase them. If you have any doubt, the association’s statement says that an anticipated use is for retailer to burn DVD on demand to sell to you. This reduce the store space for the retailer, it says. I say this means they do not have customers interest at heart, but simply see this as a necessary way to satisfy what the seller wants. Whether this means cheaper DVD, I do not know. My hunch says no.
