Australian Confidential Briefing : Piracy stats don’t add up

Filed under: Uncategorized — ctrambler @ 12:37 pm

Well, we all know it already: Financial loss due to piracy compiled by industrial groups is way up on the high side. Apparently, a confidential briefing document for the Attorney-General office of Australia agrees with it.

As people affected by it will point out, it is in early draft. There is so much at stake that I believe extremely strong lobbying techniques will be apply to it to water it down. Will I be surprised that the final report says “piracy stats adds up”? No.

However, it does point out one severe shortcoming about the statistics: The organizations peddling the statistics, when challenged, cannot back it up. Worse, they do not know how it is collected!

And finally, guess who pushed for the reports? Anti-piracy organization. They do not like what they see, unfortunately.
